Rough and Smooth ER
The Endoplasmic Reticulum produces proteins, enzymes, and hormones for the cell to use.
Smooth ER:
Structure:
-made of proteins and smooth muscle cells that are more like lipids
-no ribosomes
Function:
-involved in fat metabolism and steroid synthesis
Rough ER:
Structure:
-covered in ribosomes
-made of proteins and smooth muscle cells that are more like lipids
Function:
-involved in protein synthesis and transport
-buds off into vesicles and transports proteins to the Golgi Apparatus
