Mitochondria
The Mitchondria is the site where cellular respiration occurs and it is the "engine" of the cell.
Structure:
-outer membrane: encloses organelle
-folded inner membrane
-cristae: folds in the inner membrane
-matrix: space inside the inner membrane
Function:
-enzymes in the matrix break down carbohydrates and sugars to produce ATP (energy molecules)
-helps with cellular respiration
-controls the cell cycle
